How can I help recover the black-footed ferret?

1. Learn & Share: Visiting this Web site is a great start! Explore the many links to other sites to learn more about black-footed ferrets and the prairie ecosystem and be sure to share what you learn with others.

2. Share nature and wildlife with children. Research shows that when children are exposed to nature and wildlife as youngsters with adults they admire, their conservation ethic is stronger as an adult. Enjoy nature yourself!

3. Stop at a visitor center near a reintroduction site or visit one of the many zoos displaying or breeding ferrets to learn more about efforts to save them.

4. Get involved! Participate in any state or federal land management planning efforts that affect native prairies and the species that depend on the prairie ecosystem. Write your state and federal representatives to let them know that you feel the prairies are worth preserving.

5. Be mindful of your consumption habits. Everything humans use degrades the environment. Consider whether the items you think you need are really necessary to make your life complete.

6. Adopt a ferret (see Prairie Wildlife Research www.prairiewildlife.org)

7. Support involved organizations (Defenders of Wildlife, WWF, Audubon, Zoos with ferrets) Click here to see which zoos in your area hold black-footed ferrets.
